What do we do at FAST?
- Family Flag: The Family flag is a family engagement activity in which the family makes their own flag. Each person in the family adds their own personal touch to it by adding something they enjoy.
- FAST hello: Research has shown that making a large gesture crossing over the body gets both parts of the brain working. The FAST hello is also like a secret club as this is how FAST families greet one another.
- Family Meal: It is important for families to eat together without technology as a distraction, families get this each week they attend FAST.
- Scribbles: Family engagement game in which family members draw a picture and then discuss and positively critique one another’s drawings.
- Feelings Charades: Family engagement game in which children and adults act out emotions for one another.
- Buddy Time: Parents are able to establish or strengthen relationships one on one for a few minutes each night.
- Kids’ Group: Kids build friendships with peers at their school.
- Parents’ Group: Parents are able to discuss and debate issues on topics they choose with the assistance of community partners.
- Special Play: One on one child led play with a parent and the FAST child helps create a bonding experience for both.
- Lottery: Each family wins a gift bag during a cycle and in return, the winning family cooks the meal for the next week!
- Rain: An African tradition that strengthens community. A reminder that no matter how dire things look, the sun will always rise again!
